GTM Engineer

A GTM (go-to-market) engineer builds the systems a sales and marketing team runs on: the data, the connections between tools, and the automations that decide which company gets attention and who follows up. The same title also covers operations and sales jobs, so read what a posting says you'd own. Use this path to understand the work, show you can do it and prepare for the interview.

Account cards pass through a blue funnel into record drawers, with one record linked to an envelope and a feedback loop.

Interview practice

Practice questions written for this site, not leaked questions or any employer’s real interview. Open one to see what a strong answer covers.

Two data providers give different web domains for the same company. What do you do?

Keep the question of which company this is separate from filling in its details. Check where each value came from, hold the conflict for a person to review, and show how to undo a bad merge without losing the record of what changed.

The CRM saved the record, but the automation timed out before it heard back. How do you retry safely?

Use stable IDs and an idempotency key, a tag that lets the system spot work it already did. Check for an existing record before writing again, and explain why retrying without checking can create duplicates.

Design the path from a demo-request form to the right rep.

Name which system holds the official record at each step, the rules for existing customers and accounts with no owner, a failure people can see, and a way for the rep to send the lead back.

Pipeline in the dashboard doesn't match the forecast sheet. Where do you start?

Before blaming the data, compare how each one defines a deal stage and what it filters out. Find the records that differ, and name who owns each definition and the fix.

Sales wants a field changed today, and finance relies on it for billing.

Find every system that depends on the field, propose a test you can undo in a sandbox or a separate field, and describe who approves the change and how to roll it back.

More meetings are producing fewer qualified opportunities. What would you check?

Define the groups you're comparing, the rule for what counts as qualified, and the time window. Compare how far deals get after the meeting, not how many meetings there are, and say when the data can't prove what caused the drop.
