Start with the organizer's calendar, then choose an event by the work you want to discuss. This directory covers application engineering, framework communities, local meetups and research conferences: they serve different needs. It is not a list of tickets to buy or a promise that registration is open.

## Start with five

1. [AI Engineer](https://ai.engineer/) — Multiple events; consult each current organizer calendar. The organizer publishes technical conference programs, workshops and recorded talks. Compare an event's track and format with the system you are building.
2. [LangChain community](https://www.langchain.com/community) — Community calendar; individual dates vary. Use the official community page to find events and discussion spaces around agent development. Check whether a session is a workshop, talk or community meetup.
3. [MLOps Community city directory](https://mlops.community/meetups) — City-specific; a directory entry does not guarantee a recurring schedule. Start with your city when the goal is to discuss deployment, evaluation or infrastructure with nearby engineers. Follow the city link and check the current organizer and the most recent dated session.
4. [DataTalks.Club events](https://datatalks.club/events.html) — Event-specific; online workshops, webinars and live podcasts. Choose a workshop when you want to work through a concrete engineering task remotely. The event archive includes agent memory, durable workflows, RAG evaluation and deployment exercises.
5. [Hugging Face Builders](https://huggingface.co/hf-builders) — Program information; no complete dated event calendar on this page. Find people building with open models through the Builders program. Its program card describes city chapters, workshops and hackathons; locate a dated local event before making plans.

## The directory

| Name | Role | Why it is here | Cadence |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [AI Engineer](https://ai.engineer/) | Application engineering conferences | The organizer publishes technical conference programs, workshops and recorded talks. Compare an event's track and format with the system you are building. The organizer lists upcoming 2026 events in New York and San Francisco and 2027 editions in London and San Francisco. Its broader meetup program is announced for Q4 2026, not evidence of an active chapter in every city. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://ai.engineer/). | Multiple events; consult each current organizer calendar |
| [LangChain community](https://www.langchain.com/community) | Framework community and events | Use the official community page to find events and discussion spaces around agent development. Check whether a session is a workshop, talk or community meetup. The official community page links the LangChain Luma calendar for in-person and virtual sessions. Individual event pages determine location, prerequisites and registration status. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://www.langchain.com/community). | Community calendar; individual dates vary |
| [MLOps Community city directory](https://mlops.community/meetups) | Local practitioner meetup discovery | Start with your city when the goal is to discuss deployment, evaluation or infrastructure with nearby engineers. Follow the city link and check the current organizer and the most recent dated session. The city index includes Austin, New York, London, Berlin and other locations. The checked Austin and New York links now open AAIF-branded Luma calendars; organizer identity can change downstream. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://mlops.community/meetups). | City-specific; a directory entry does not guarantee a recurring schedule |
| [DataTalks.Club events](https://datatalks.club/events.html) | Online workshops and technical discussions | Choose a workshop when you want to work through a concrete engineering task remotely. The event archive includes agent memory, durable workflows, RAG evaluation and deployment exercises. The official page links a shared calendar, individual Luma registrations and past recordings. It lists GraphRAG for November 2, 2026, but also retains September 15 under Upcoming; compare every date with today. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://datatalks.club/events.html). | Event-specific; online workshops, webinars and live podcasts |
| [Hugging Face Builders](https://huggingface.co/hf-builders) | Local open-source community program | Find people building with open models through the Builders program. Its program card describes city chapters, workshops and hackathons; locate a dated local event before making plans. The hf-builders program card describes global city chapters and organizer support. This replaces the old Events organization page; the program card alone does not establish an upcoming event in a particular city. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://huggingface.co/hf-builders). | Program information; no complete dated event calendar on this page |
| [MLSys](https://mlsys.org/) | Machine learning systems research | Useful when your questions concern serving, training systems or infrastructure tradeoffs. Read the program and proceedings to judge technical fit. The homepage has rolled over to MLSys 2027 in Bellevue, with dates still to come. It links the 2026 proceedings and reports that 2026 session recordings are unavailable. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://mlsys.org/). | Annual conference; dates and submissions set by the organizer |
| [NeurIPS](https://neurips.cc/) | Machine learning research and workshops | Use the workshop and tutorial program to find focused research discussions. The main conference is broader than application engineering. The organizer lists the 2026 Sydney main conference for December 6–12 and Atlanta and Paris satellite events for December 9–13. These are distinct programs; consult the selected edition. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://neurips.cc/). | Annual conference with separate workshop and tutorial schedules |
| [ICLR](https://iclr.cc/) | Representation learning research | Look for the workshops, papers and tutorials closest to your technical problem. Research relevance and practical workshop format should be assessed separately. The homepage now advertises April 26–30, 2027 in California. Registration is closed and detailed venue information is still pending. The 2026 edition is linked separately. [Source checked 2026-09-17](https://iclr.cc/). | Annual conference; check the current edition |

## Match the format to the goal

| Goal | Format to look for | Verify on the event page |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Leave with working code | Hands-on workshop | Prerequisites, setup instructions and exercise repository |
| Resolve an architecture question | Technical talk with discussion | Speaker's system, failure cases and time for questions |
| Meet local practitioners | Community meetup | Organizer, venue, participation rules and recent events |
| Understand a research result | Tutorial or research workshop | Paper links, evaluation setup and available recordings |

## Find a local or online session

For local discussion, open the [MLOps Community city index](https://mlops.community/meetups), choose your city and follow its organizer link. The Austin and New York links currently lead to [AAIF Austin](https://luma.com/aaif-austin) and [AAIF New York](https://luma.com/aaif-newyork). Check the name on the destination calendar: an old directory label is not proof that the same organizer still runs it.

For a framework-focused session, use the [LangChain calendar](https://lu.ma/langchain) linked from its official community page. For remote practice, browse [DataTalks.Club workshops](https://datatalks.club/events.html). Choose one with an exercise or recording you can follow, then check its setup instructions before joining. Hugging Face Builders is a program for finding or organizing local activity; its program page is not a complete event schedule.

Bring one concrete question: a failed evaluation, a deployment tradeoff or a small example you can explain. That makes a meetup easier to use than arriving with a general wish to learn more about AI.

## Keep past events separate from upcoming ones

Organizer homepages move between editions. As checked on September 17, 2026, MLSys and ICLR already promote 2027, while NeurIPS lists its December 2026 program. MLSys provides 2026 proceedings but says those session recordings are unavailable. A proceedings link and a video archive are different resources.

Calendar headings can also lag behind their dates. DataTalks.Club still lists a September 15 session under Upcoming alongside a November 2 session. Read the actual date, timezone and registration page instead of relying on the heading.

The entry-level notes record what was checked and which limitations remain. They do not guarantee ticket availability or a continuing local meetup schedule.

Before committing time or travel money, check the actual event date, timezone, venue, cancellation policy, prerequisites and whether a recording will meet your need. For a remote alternative, use the [builder video directory](/blog/ai-youtube-channels-for-builders) and reproduce one relevant exercise.

## Change log

- 2026-09-17: Expanded to eight organizer and community sources. Replaced the stale Hugging Face Events page, added local and online discovery paths, and recorded current-edition and calendar limitations.
- 2026-09-17: Initial selection of 6 primary-source entries, reviewed for identity and scope. Cadence describes how to recheck; no claim that every example was reproduced.
